However, if a reward is a validation of the good practices, processes and culture creation, it injects a fresh dose of enthusiasm to keep going on the right path. One such validation was when Ireo was ranked in the top ranking in the Great Places to Work-Economic Times India’s Best Companies to Work For survey in 2016. What made it even more special was that we were able to achieve this feat despite being from Real Estate sector which is considered disorganized and disorderly. HR practices in Real Estate are considered incidental to the entire business process. To be able to establish good people practices over years, and to find a mention amongst the best of the best HR practices was indeed a great achievement. As HR we need to remember that every employee seeks a good work environment, healthy competition, transparency and belief in company’s practices and processes and trust in the leadership. And it matters not which industry we belong to. Culture of an organization can withstand the harsh business conditions because the roots grow deep. When I look back and feel I have helped in reinforcing this belief or sowed the seed of this realization in the companies that I worked for, I feel rewarded. Regarding what I will like to undo, I can recall nothing major. The business world is a very dynamic space. There is no time for regrets or to ponder too long on what we could have done better or wallow in our mistakes. It is important to remember and learn from our mistakes so that we do not repeat them in future and move on. We can never rest of the past laurels which are transient and nebulous. HR has to constantly evolve and remain relevant to the context. In the knowledge world of tomorrow, business will be more and more about people. Its Human Resources will be its most important differentiators. And therefore HR is yet to have its day in the sun. I hope I am around to see those days of glory!! n:gage | August 2017
