The next day, I came to know that there was a small quarrel among the ladies of the neighbourhood over a drain in the street. This had made that uncle furious and he wasted a lot of water in the drain. Now I understood why nobody had spoken in my support when uncle was scolding me. Since that day, all the drinking water was flowing in the drain and nobody had courage to stand against that angry man.
After 2-3 days, we had a lecture in our school over‘ Being Socially Strong’. I was so inspired by the lecture that I mentioned my neighbourhood problem to the guest speaker. He simply asked me to report the matter to the SHO of our area. I liked the idea. I went to that uncle’ s house. He wasn’ t at home. I told his wife that we all were suffering a lot due to stubbornness of her husband and I was going to report the matter to the SHO. Now, the lady who was the root cause of the problem, immediately changed her tone and began persuading me not to go to Police. She also promised to talk to her husband and assured that there won’ t be any wastage of water in future.
I realised that we had tolerated the matter in vain. We shouldn’ t have been timid in the beginning. We all should have been socially strong and helped ourselves. Instead of being intimidated by his anger, we should have spoken to that uncle on the first day itself. By being socially strong, we can build a strong nation too.
