Nzinga Blake: Mainstream Media’s On
Air Talent, Writer, and Producer

W
e kick-off our Kushe’ Interviews with Nzinga Christine Blake, mainstream media’s
on air talent, writer and producer. Called a jet-setter from birth because she grew up
in Asia, Africa and America, Nzinga Blake was born in Greenbelt, Maryland, USA. She is
the daughter of a former Sierra Leonean United Nations official, cabinet minister and world
scholar. At the age of two her family moved to Tokyo, Japan where they lived until age
eight. She moved on to live in Nairobi, Kenya for three years and with her sister, she attended the International School of Kenya. Nzinga recalls “this was one of the best experiences in our life.” She refers to her short years in Kenya as the Beverly Hills 90210 lifestyle
of Africa. After Nairobi, Nzinga was off to Munster, Indiana where she completed high
school.
With a love for the arts, fashion and humanitarian efforts, Nzinga starred in several Japanese and English musical theater performances from grade school overseas and throughout
high school. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of California Los
