Mr. David Vandy
With over twenty years experience in the entertainment business, David Buakei Vandy is the current host / producer of Voice of America’ s musical programme, African Beat. With his many talents, David quickly raised the profile of the program bringing together melodious tunes from all around the continent and granting interviews to a sought after list of established and up-coming artists. The program is aired every weekday, and has become a popular international platform for African artisits.
David hails from the shores of Sierra Leone in West Africa. Educated at the Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone, he was also a theatre artist specializing in acting and directing plays. Although movies have become his current focus, David started his broadcasting career with the Atlantic Broadcastng Cooperation ABC FM94 in Freetown, Sierra Leone and presented various programs on both radio and television at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service. He worked as commercial manager and producer for Radio Democracy FM 98.1 and a producer for Radio Unamsil at the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone. David went on to serve as general manager of Sky Radio 106.6 FM in Freetown.
After years of working his way up, he gladly embraced the opportunity to progress to the international scene. David is the Founder and Director of the first all Sierra Leonean Theatre Company – Sierra Theatre Production LLC in the United States. His company is the first Sierra Leone Theatre Group to perform at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington DC. David spends most of his leisure time nurturing the talents of young people, a pastime he thoroughly enjoys.
