INTRODUCTION
K
unzang Palyul Chöling
was founded in 1985
by Jetsunma Ahkön
Lhamo, the reincarnation of Gen-
yenma Ahkön Lhamo, the sister of
Rigdzin Kunzang Sherab, the First
Throneholder of the Palyul lineage.
In 1987 an American woman, Alyce
Zeoli was formally recognized by His
Holiness Penor Rinpoche as a tulku
or the intentional reincarnation of
one who is reborn solely to benefit
others. His Holiness had quietly con-
ferred with other high lamas for two
years, including the previous Supreme
Head of the Nyingmapa, His Holi-
ness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and
Dzongnang Rinpoche before recog-
nizing her reincarnation. This marked
the first time ever that a Western
woman had been so recognized.
Kunzang Palyul Chöling (KPC) follows
the Vajrayana Buddhist path accord-
ing to the Palyul monastic tradition.
Toward that end, KPC has provided
a place of spiritual refuge, teaching
and healing for tens of thousands
of visitors and practitioners from
around the world for over 28 years.
KPC’s mission is to alleviate suf-
fering in all its forms. In addition
to hosting all the major lamas from
Palyul Monastery, as well as many
others from the Nyingma and Kagyu
lineages, who have offered thou-
sands of traditional teachings, KPC
has rescued hundreds of abused
animals, helped the homeless, the
imprisoned and the hungry.
