GET INVOLVED ON NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL DAYS OF SIGNIFICANCE
CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY
First Sunday of March each year
In 1989, Ian Kiernan wanted to make a difference and launched the idea to clean up Sydney Harbour. The
idea took off, gaining a groundswell of community support. In 1990, along with co-founder Kim McKay,
Clean Up Australia Day was launched. Since then, Clean Up Australia has grown into an organisation
that works with the community, government and business to help us all live more sustainably. Today the
focus is as much on preventing rubbish entering our environment as it is on removing what has already
accumulated.
