Over the past three years, KU’s
long-standing commitment to,
and involvement in, research has
evolved. While research has always
played a critical role in informing
our work with children and families,
KU has recently taken a more
targeted approach in determining
our research agenda and utilising
our own knowledge, evidence and
experience to produce resources
that inform, influence and improve
practice, both within KU and across
the sector.
KU recently developed and produced
the practical resource ‘Guiding
Children’s Behaviour in Practice:
A Team Approach’. This resource
encourages teams of educators to
have reflective discussions about
how they can support children’s
wellbeing, safety and development
by guiding their behaviour.
The resource supports educators’
understanding of child development,
provides strategies to establish
positive social and physical
environments, and addresses how
educators can interpret and respond
to challenging behaviour that can
impact on individual and group social
development. Guiding Children’s
Behaviour in Practice is available to
educators in all KU services, and can
also be purchased by educators and
services throughout the sector.
Another resource KU developed and
produced in 2019 was the ‘Child
Safe in Practice’ resource. This
was developed to strengthen our
commitment to children’s safety
and wellbeing, and to align our
future vision and purpose with that
of the National Principles for Child
Safe Organisations.
Child Safe in Practice consists of
factsheets exploring different issues
and scenarios involving children,
with key messages and guidance
to help educators implement
best practice. The resource was
developed in consultation with KU
staff and representatives, bringing
together a high level of experience
and knowledge in early childhood
education and care. It encourages
