CHAIR AND CEO’S REPORT
KU’s commitment to reconciliation
and increasing access to our
services for Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander children and families
resulted in the establishment of
the Aboriginal Advisory Group to
further explore avenues to achieve
this goal. KU also developed an
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Employee Experience Strategy and
was provided with an exemption
by the Human Rights Commission
to advertise and recruit for targeted
positions within KU services,
increasing the number of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander employees
within the organisation. KU centres
and services are continuing their
reconciliation journey by completing
and evolving their Reconciliation
Action Plans.
Our results have been achieved
through the dedication and
commitment of our staff.
KU’s expanded research agenda
lays the groundwork for developing
knowledge and evidence that
influences the way we practice early
childhood education, as well as
extending internal capabilities. This
has led to the successful completion of
the Leadership in KU Research Project
and the KU Starting Points Research
Project; the results of which will be
analysed and disseminated in 2020.
In summary, 2019 was both
challenging and rewarding, and as
we look ahead, we look forward to
implementing our new Strategic
Plan that will focus on consolidating
our position as the pioneers of early
childhood education in Australia.
Preparations have also been
underway to celebrate KU’s 125 th
anniversary in 2020, however due
to COVID-19, we have had to make
the difficult decision to postpone
our celebrations until the current
situation has abated. We look
forward to sharing details of our
125 th celebrations with you in due
course.
Thank you to the Board and all our
teams who contributed to making
the KU difference in 2019.
