Making the KU Difference

Through sustainability

Elena Arroba
Director, KU Macquarie Park
In addition to KU’ s commitment to environmental sustainability, a key focus of KU’ s Board is KU’ s financial sustainability. Financial sustainability means we can continue to grow, making the KU Difference for more children and families. It also means we can continue to support inclusion and diversity, of both the children within our centres, and the staff within our team. Most importantly, financial sustainability is what will enable KU to continue finding the balance between the cost of providing high quality early childhood education and care, and our desire to keep fees as affordable as possible in all our services.
Each KU centre budget is unique, and we rely heavily on our centre staff to manage their budgets effectively and responsibly. Prior to Elena Arroba’ s appointment as the Director of KU Macquarie Park, the service had struggled financially for several years.
In addition to taking on her new role and delivering a high quality program for the children and families, Elena worked tirelessly with her staff to manage her centre budget, and identify areas and opportunities for improvement.
Through a focus on quality educational programs, teamwork, professionalism and promotion of the service, Elena was also able to increase enrolments and improve the centre’ s overall financial performance. This has been achieved without sacrificing the quality of the program for the children and has also generated much positive feedback from families.
The turnaround Elena has achieved at KU Macquarie Park means that the centre is now helping ensure KU’ s long term financial sustainability.
