Early Childhood Sector
KU participated in a number of public consultations
throughout the year about the National Quality
Reform Agenda and also submitted written responses
to Government consultations on the Food Safety Draft
Regulation and Regulatory Impact Statement (March
2009) and the Regulation Impact Statement for Early
Childhood Education and Care Quality Reforms (August
2009). KU made a submission to the Senate Inquiry into
the Provision of Childcare and fully supported the Early
Childhood Australia (ECA) National Hands Up for Quality
Campaign and played an integral role in assisting with
the launch of the campaign in Canberra. Following this
successful national campaign, the Council of Australian
Governments (COAG) agreed to a new National Quality
Framework for early childhood education and care and
signed the agreement on Monday 7 December 2009.
This landmark decision was a significant achievement
for early childhood education and care as it is the first
time in our history that governments across Australia
have agreed to implement a consistent set of quality
standards across the nation.
Within KU, a working party was established to examine
the Directors’ administration time in preschools and this
resulted in all preschool Directors’ administration time
being extended to one full day. A similar working party
will be established in 2010 to examine the administration
time for Directors of long day care services.
KU Student Awards
KU supports the early childhood community
by providing awards to assist exceptional
students undertaking early childhood studies
at TAFE and University. These awards
encourage continuing excellence within
the sector and recognise the importance of
having qualified and talented staff working
with our children.
Congratulations to the recipients of the
2009 KU Student Awards.
