should not be made. Women should not be portrayed
in stereotyped images that emphasize passive,
submissive qualities and encourage them to play a
subordinate secondary role in the family and society.
Both men and women should be portrayed in ways
that encourage mutual respect and a spirit of give and

The media can show the way the women to stand on
their own feet by becoming economically independent
but unfortunately often the women are only shown as
being capable of doing “womanly jobs” such as
sewing, embroidery, making pickles etc. The media
tends to forget that women are capable of doing much
more including going to space and even ruling a
country. The gap between women and media needs to
be bridged. Women must be projected in the right
earnest and also kept informed about their rights in
society and the opportunities of equality available to
them. Women must be shown not only as performing
the duties of wife / daughter but as being major bread
In a democratic country like India the media can play
a crucial role in helping women to find their distinctive
