Bertil Vallien began spending time with these sand-casted heads in the mid-1990s . One half is awake and one asleep , if you like . In mythology , Janus was the god responsible for dawn and dusk . For Bertil , who has always tried to capture light in his glass , this double nature became a character that he has revisited time and again , looking for a conversation . The powerful contrast between raw and cut glass gives the sculpture its special magic . Janus is produced in a limited and signed edition of 100 .
