Crackle defies all preconceptions and makes a glassblower ’ s nightmare – cracked glass – its raison d ’ être . Here it ’ s used to give the object beauty and character .
The mold is dug out of clay by hand and the cracked surface is formed using an ancient technique where the hot glass is dipped in ice cold water . The result is a series of objects whose expression changes depending on perspective and distance , reminiscent of sculptures made of colored ice .
Crackle by Kosta Boda was launched in 2020 and consists of vases and a bowl , all mouth-blown in Kosta . In 2023 , the Crackle Circular series won the prestigious international ‘ Best of the Best ’ - Red Dot Design Award .
