Our Twisted Hero - Yi Munyol ( age 12 and up ). 20 th century - Lesson ( The book was written by one of the most famous Korean contemporary authors and is an engaging short novel about a bully ) 4 . Dear Juno - Soyung Park ( ages 3-7 ) Contemporary story – Lesson ( 3 copies ) A Korean boy in the U . S . finds ways to communicate with his grandmother in Korea . The 2016 California History-Social Science Framework recommends this book . 5 . A Single Shard - Linda Sue Park ( ages 9-13 ) Newberry Award - Korea during the Goryeo Dynasty ( 918-1392 ) Lesson ( 3 copies ) A beautiful , touching , and memorable story . 6 . Good Fortune in a Wrapping Cloth - Joan Schoettler ( beautifully illustrated ) Ages 4-8 ) Joseon Dynasty ( 1392-1910 ) – Lesson - ( The recipient of this door prize should be willing to find a way to read this book with his / her students and develop a wrapping cloth project . Art teachers will find the book and lesson to be very satisfying . 7 . Kite Fighters – Linda Sue Park ( ages 8-10 ) Joseon Dynasty ( 1392-1910 ) - Lesson 8 . The Year of Impossible Goodbyes – Sook Nyul Choi ( ages 12 and up ) Japanese occupation to the division of Korea ( 1910-1945 ) – Lesson – Seminar lectures and lessons will provide background for teaching this book . 9 . Name Jar – Yangsook Choi ( ages Pre-K-2 and up ) Contemporary – Lesson ( 2 copies ) The author “ draws from her own experience , interweaving several issues into this touching account and delicately addressing the challenges of assimilation .” 12 .
