All too often it takes tragedy to make us realize that forgiveness would have been a lot easier that vengeance. Revenge, the desire to pay someone back for a wrong that has been committed against you. In the play Romeo and Juliet, written by shakespeare, revenge ultimately causes the downfall of the main characters. When Juliet's cousin Tybalt murders Mercutio, romeo, in a moment of passion and anger takes an act of revenge and murders Tybalt. As a result Romeo is forced to go into exile, and this leads to the inevitable death of Romeo and Juliet. The deaths of Romeo and his beloved could have been prevented if Romeo had instead waited for someone else to punish Tybalt for his actions. This is similar to the story of Samson. When Sampson’s first wife is killed, he kills hundreds of philistines. Even though he received his revenge he ultimately was captured and killed by the philistines.
