Construction

Our local NGO partner, Child’s Dream, establishes a close partnership with the community leaders and the school management when developing educational infrastructure projects to ensure a more successful outcome. This is seen in terms of successfully meeting educational needs and supporting community development that leads to greater sustainability.

At Ko Koh Primary School the community was encouraged to actively participate in the construction. This participation gives villagers a stronger sense of pride and ownership of their project. The community agreed to contribute by demolishing the old building, filling the foundation and organising the opening ceremony.

Child’s Dream is required to follow government approved construction plans and designs when building schools in Cambodia. They partnered with a local contractor to manage labour and transportation of materials, oversee construction and supply furniture. The contractor was paid in instalments after the completion of each step of the building process, according to a written agreement. Five percent of the total construction cost will be held for six months after completion of construction as a guarantee for the quality of the work.

Construction began in November 2019. The Child's Dream team closely monitored the progress of the construction to ensure high-quality standards were met. Child's Dream visited the site various times throughout the building process and they were pleased with the cooperation of the community. The entire construction process went well. Construction was fully completed well ahead of schedule, on 25 February 2020. The school will be formally handed over to the Cambodian Ministry of Education, the school management team, and the community during the opening ceremony, which is not yet scheduled. We truly hope that you will attend this important event together with us. Please do let us know so that we can plan for a date.
