 here's an exciting issue

here for you! And, we

have some interesting people, trends, facts, figures and tips to give you.

Since this is my soapbox, and as an educator, career consultant, author, editor, speaker and paralegal manager, executive, CEO and gosh knows what in this field for over 25 years, it's time to give some observations:

Taking off right now is the paralegal/legal secretary hybrid position. Whether this is good, remains to be seen. It certainly is not a step up for the field.

I am also disturbed by the lack of specialized training in the schools and the demand for more specialized respon- sibilities in litigation support. It is very difficult to get any- thing other than on-the-job training that sometimes lacks in quality as many employees are not trained to train.

Salaries seem to be getting better in certain cities such as Los Angeles and are defin-itely above the average for the U.S.

Lack of available training in areas seeing an upsurge remain in trust & estates, real estate and corporate. It's easy to catch on to corporate maintenance but T&E and real estate are harder to learn. Getting a real estate license does not fly with a law firm. More training needs to become available.

And finally, age discrimina- tion. The paralegal field is not a field that attracts kids right out of college. Yet, if you are over 40, you can be subject to this common career buster.

Are you aware you can bring it on yourself? Certain phrases you use, the way you dress, lack of skills - all of it. That doesn't make it right.....

Take a look at my eBook on 5 Steps to Beat Age Discrim- ination and don't let it hap- pen to you!

That's it for now! Happy reading!
