KNOW, the Magazine for Paralegals Summer 2014 | Page 4
Letter from the Editor
Hello Readers!
This issue is all about the rapidly changing paralegal field. We’ve only written about changes in the field. You’re going to find the different directions you
can take exciting and motivating. How could you not?
I am amazed at the forward thinking and continuous progression this field
has made in such a short period of time. I mean, if you take a look at the lawyer
position, things move so....very.......slowly because historically, lawyers are reluctant to embrace change. Yet, paralegals don’t seem to have that disease.
For example, Loni Morganelli tells us how to go about becoming an international paralegal - one that works in a country abroad. Taking the risk and be
able to produce a stellar work history is only part of what you can gain.
Lottie Wathen writes about a new educational opportunity not previously
available, Master of Jurisprudence, an alternative path for paralegals to take.
What will become of those paralegals who don’t want to go to law school, yet
don’t want to stay a paralegal BUT want to stay in the field? Here may be an
answer.
Then, there’s our KNOW Business team, Stacey Hunt, Therese Cannon and
Nancy Heller who report about new and evolving roles paralegals can take in
providing better access to legal services - and I am not talking about providing
services directly to the public. Be sure to absorb this fascinating article as it is
sure to affect you in some manner.
And finally, I jump in with my own usually private thoughts about how social media has changed the world - whether you are a paralegal or just humming along at your own speed.
If you love what we’ve done here, pass this issue along. Help spread the
word that KNOW is part of the changing paralegal scene: enthusiastic, participating and loving this field. Above all, let me know your thoughts!
Enjoy!
