AND HOW IT BEGAN
The mission of our Warm Welcome service is to connect newcomers in the area with our local businesses and resources . The Warm Welcome service has welcomed countless families to the River Region area since its creation in 1998 by Mrs . Doris Adair , a longstanding native of Prattville , Alabama . Here ’ s a short history of Warm Welcome and the woman who made it possible .

Mrs . Doris began her career in greeting with a part-time job at Newcomer Greeting Service based out of Pinebrook , Arkansas . It was through this part-time gig she decided she really loved greeting newcomers .
After 3 years in her full-time desk job at the Prattville Chamber of Commerce , Mrs . Doris was approved to start a greeting service through the Chamber . In 1998 , Mrs . Doris left the chamber and opened her own greeting business , Warm Welcome Greeting , LLC . Her husband , Billy , handled monthly invoices and reports , and she gathered sponsors and made the visits . This dream team successfully made about 500 welcome visits per year .
When asked about her favorite aspect of the city , Mrs . Doris answered , “ The presence of ‘ Old Prattville ’— people who were born here and never left — has helped maintain the character and small town atmosphere as the city continues to grow . I love sharing that
KEEP IT CLEAN
Keeping the air filter in your home changed is an easily overlooked but important task . United Heating and Air recommends replacing air filters every 45 days . The process can be done in only five minutes and doesn ’ t require a technician unless you encounter an issue .
All you have to do is figure out the size you need , purchase a new filter , and swap out the old filter with a new replacement .
HERE ARE SOME SIMPLE STEPS :
1 Turn off your heating / air
2 Find and locate your filter 3 4
Determine the size of your filter Remove the old filter
5 Insert the new filter
6 Turn your heating / air back on
The manual that came with your system should tell you what kind and size of a filter is recommended for your system . If you don ’ t have the manual , most air filters can be found in the blower compartment or built into the ductwork near the blower fan . To figure out what size filter you need to purchase , look for the dimensions , usually printed on the cardboard filter frame . small town charm with those who are new to the area . We also have a large Military presence here , and the greeting service is especially appreciated by Military newcomers .”
After 16 years , Mrs . Doris decided to sell her business to a friend , Melissa Mills , in 2015 . At her age , going out and greeting on the level that she was doing was taking a toll on her . Melissa ran the business from 2015-2020 . Know the Community took over the greeting services , and we continue to provide Warm Welcomes to newcomers in the River Region .
Our current Warm Welcome Manager , Angie Jordin , shared , “ Whenever we go around Prattville to greet others , or talk about our Warm Welcome service , everyone always asks about Mrs . Doris .” Her legacy of welcoming new families to Prattville still remains strong and makes our community a great relocation city .
NOTE : Some heating and cooling systems come with filters that can be rinsed off . Others use fiberglass filters that can ’ t be reused . These filters can be easily found at hardware , home improvement , and even most grocery stores .
COMMON ISSUES OF FAILING TO CHANGE AIR FILTER :
• Shorter motor life – causes motors to over amp and run harder than normal
• Low air flow – causes the system to freeze up
• Freezing up – causes water issues
• The efficiency of the system is not optimal .
• Longer run time = Higher power bills
