Diane Black
U.S. Congresswoman Diane Black is another firm believer that Planned Parenthood needs to be defunded. On her website, she showed support for Congressman Mike Pence's legislation Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, which would prevent abortion providers from receiving Title X federal grants. Black, who worked as a nurse for 40 years before becoming Tennessee's 6th Congressional District Congressman, said, "I have spent my career protecting life. As a member of Congress, I will continue this critical fight for life." Black acknowledged that federal funding for P.P. is meant to fund important health services that assist low-income Americans, but she insists that P.P. is actually misusing its funding to provide abortion services. Black also worked along side Joni Ernst to write a bicameral, bipartisan letter to the HHS, which was co-signed by 18 Senate members and 90 House members, in opposition to the HHS's proposed rule to prevent states from withholding Title X funding from abortion providers.
Marjorie Dannenfelser
Marjorie Dannenfelser is president of the Susan B. Anthony List, an anti-abortion group who's goal is to abolish abortion, and is passionate about defunding Planned Parenthood in an attempt to protect the lives of unborn babies. Though Dannenfelser was once a pro-choice advocate in her younger days, she was converted by Catholic intellectuals and has since been a pro-life advocate every since. In a piece she wrote for Time, Dannenfelser criticized Hillary Clinton's support of P.P. in the third presedential debate and praised Donal Trump for his firm, pro-life stance. Dannenfelser routinely refered to Clinton as "pro-abortion," while condoning Trump's commitment to defund P.P.. Dannenfelser has also taken a unique stance on abotion, explaining to The New Yorker about how speaking better, not less, about abortion could actually benefit Republican politicians' popularity.
