BT KCC blown fibre
case study
In 2006 Kent county council approached KMH for assistance with a new project, they were taking over a new building in the heart of
Maidstone, Kent and needed to provide, connectivity between the new building and their existing council offices. KMH were engaged
initially to assist in the design of the solution and secondly to implement the design.
Our recommendation to the customer was two fold, firstly blown fibre between the buildings, and secondly a backup
Laser-link between the buildings. KMH won the tender and were engaged, to not only install the lasers and fibre but also to carry out
the ground works for the Blown fibre which ran across a busy road in Maidstone.
KMH were responsible for the project implementation, management of building contractors, liaison with the planning offices for
permits.
KMH installed Krone PremisNET blown fibre tubing from the new offices, to their other offices, providing a tube with the capacity
for 32 cores to one of the buildings and 64 cores to the other. We then installed a combination of multi-mode and single mode
fibres between the buildings and cabinets. In total 440 cores were terminated.
