2014 wedding trends
The wedding industry in South Africa is continually changing and evolving, as trends tend to come and go. From props, surprise ceremonies, navy anything and sand, here are hot tips for you.
1. Personalisation is a popular current trend. Attention to detail with personalised elements reflects the unique quirkiness of the bride and groom and their relationship. This includes love stories and intimate personal details shared with guests whether on a storyboard, photo wall or other décor pieces.
2. No matter what sort of reception you have, make sure your guests have FUN! Grab a few inexpensive props and make unforgettable photo’s.
2. Intimate, at-home weddings are gaining popularity. The return to simplicity and the homely feeling of one’s parents’ home has become trendy. Hire a tent and you are set! The 'shabby-chic' farm-type wedding can easily be achieved by making use of the types of glassware and vases that you remember seeing on your grandparents’ dining table as a child.
3. Buffet to the table has taken the industry by storm. Tables are served large bowls of decadent food, which guests can help themselves to. This creates a relaxed vibe, with everyone sharing and passing the dishes around (think of Mexican feasts to get an idea).
4. It has become a trend for the reception venue to be kept a secret until after the church ceremony!
5. Autumn, and especially Winter weddings are a great way to utilise 'down time' in the industry, when one gets great deals! Romantic candlelight, crackling fire places – pure romance!
6. Projecting the bride and groom’s favourite movie or a black and white film on a screen or white wall near the dance floor to add to the ambience of the evening, has become a very popular choice.
7. Asking guests to donate to your favourite charity, at the reception, is gaining popularity fast.
8. Gold is back in a big way from stationery to gold rimmed tableware and gold accessories. You can combine gold with any colour. In spring/summer months you can pair gold with teal and coral or opt for more elegant combination of ivory and pastel pinks. In autumn and winter pair gold with black, deep red and even purples. for richer texture and more dramatic impact. (insert slide 4)
