FORGING NEW INDO-CHINA TIES
The visit of the Chinese Consul General Dr. Liu Youfa to Somaiya Vidyavihar

The Chinese Consul General Dr. Liu Youfa visited
Somaiya Vidyavihar on 21st August 2014 for a
delegate conference on “India-China: New
Leadership - New Relationship”. The Consul
General interacted with our students and faculty
and motivated them to know more about China and
also to contribute in strengthening India-China
socio-economic relationship. The meeting
between Dr. Youfa and Shri Samir Somaiya led to
promises of academic collaboration between
Chinese universities and Somaiya Vidyavihar
including scholarship / internship to our students
for studying in China and facilitations of Somaiya
Vidyavihar to have HSK/Hanban centre for
certification of Chinese Language Course.
The summit led by Dr. Liu Youfa was attended by
eminent personalities such as Mr. Yan Hualong the
deputy Consul general, Mr. Samir Somaiya and
prominent academicians such as Prof. Bhushan
Dewan Pro vice chancellor of AKS University,
Satna, Mr. Guo Taojie, Dr. S. E Bhelke. The
audience also included our valued faculty
members, Dr. Supriya Rai, Dr. Meenakshi Rajan,
Prof. Debraj Ghoshal, Dr. Satyendra Kr. Upadhyay
and students of Chinese language, Management,
Arts, Science and Commerce, Engineering and
other departments in Somaiya Campus.

manufacturing sector. He continued to explain and
validate his opinion of how India-China share 2.5
billion people and can jointly enjoy the biggest
market share in the world. He further mentioned
that there are many Indian companies in China but
relatively few Chinese companies in India and that
the moment a manufacturing zone is declared in
Maharashtra, many Chinese companies would like
to come and invest in India and Indian engineers,
who are in audience can get plenty of job
opportunities in Chinese companies. He ended his
presentation with promises of further academic
collaborations between Somaiya Vidyavihar and
renowned universities in China, scholarships for
students to study in China and the setting up of a
HSK/Hanban Centre at Somaiya for certification of
Chinese Language course.

Dr. Meenakshi Rajan, Head, International
Relations Committee
of Somaiya Vidyavihar
hosted the conference that commenced with the
welcome speech by Provost, Prof. Bhushan
Dewan. Dr. Satyendra Kr. Upadhyay introduced Dr.
Liu Youfa, Consul General, P.R. China and talked
about his academic excellence and diplomatic
experience to the audience, followed by Shri Samir
S. Somaiya felicitating the Chief Guest Dr. Liu
Youfa.
The Consul General made a presentation on
“India-China: New Leadership - New Relationship”.
He highlighted every significant aspect of IndiaChina Socio economic relationship, potential and
challenges and suggestions from an economist's
point of view. He stressed that India and China are
the closest neighbors and cannot afford to avoid
each other. He added that China needs to learn
from India about Service and IT sectors and India
can gain knowledge from China about the

answered several questions from the audience
regarding Chinese support/policy in manufacturing
industry, pharmaceutical sector and learning
