REVIEW
tyre has its strengths . For the Maxi Grip I think the area where it excels is in more extreme conditions . I fitted a soft mousse and , in a discipline where you want a tyre with flex , it was the perfect match . The open pattern keeps clear in mud and can shift plenty of dirt , but when it hooks up you can look back and it has hardly disturbed the covering of pine needles - nothing but pure traction . For NZ conditions a popular hard enduro tyre is the Mitas XT754 , and I ’ d say the SG-1s are as good , possibly better , as I think they get better grip on roots and stability at higher speed is far better . Obviously , don ’ t just take my word for it , get a set of Maxi Grip SG-1 ’ s to try for yourself . With a good price point and being “ NZ designed for NZ conditions ” makes them a hard tyre to look beyond , especially as no matter the time of year in New Zealand , you ’ re always likely to come across mud . The more time I spend on them , the more versatile they seem to be , and for particular events and conditions they will be my tyre of choice . I ’ d recommend them for trail riders and winter riding , right through to muddy / soft races and extreme enduro .
