saw , and heard , the V8 in full flight . A never to be forgotten experience . During the three years in which the V8 ran competitively it failed to win any classic events . In spite of this , development looked promising , and a 350cc V8 had also been built . There was a victory in the Imola Gold Cup , and a fourth place in the Isle of Man Senior TT , then Guzzi announced they were withdrawing from racing . A brave experiment , but because of changing circumstances , was never completely fulfilled . It is 99 years since Moto Guzzi production began , and the V8 and V7 motorcycles will be remembered , not only an essential part of that history , but as milestones and fine examples of innovation and imaginative engineering .
