allocated three hours , but Scott had already been through the timing zone about 30 seconds earlier and he was out on the course for a ( at that stage now meaningless ) 10th lap . “ There was a little bit of pressure about a quarter of the way through the race ( at round three ) and I could see that Tommy ( Watts ) was reeling me in ,” said Scott afterwards . “ I had a small crash , but then after that I just picked up my pace . I had an extra fuel stop , one more than Tommy , and that probably helped him a bit too .”
RIVALS TO TEAM UP Ironically , next up for Scott is for him to team up with his main cross-country champs rivals , Watts and Yeoman , to form the three-man New Zealand Junior Team at this year ’ s International Six Days Enduro , to be held near the town of Le Puy en Velay , in southern France , in late August and early September . “ We have quite a strong team . We ’ re fierce rivals on the track , but good mates off it and I ’ m looking forward to going to France .
I raced two rounds of the Enduro World Championships in 2021 and that gave me a good taste of what I can expect . “ I ’ ll race the New Zealand Enduro Championships this year too , before I head overseas .”
JUNIOR GRADE It was a similar story in the junior grade , with Cambridge 16-year-old Jared Hannon ( Kawasaki ) making it three wins in a row when he followed on from his win at Marton , by also winning the 90-minute junior races at both Pahiatua / Masterton and Dannevirke . Hannon ’ s 1-1-1 score-card for the series also earned him the national title win with a round to spare . Runner-up to Hannon at round two was Te Awamutu 13-year-old Nixon Parkes ( KTM ), with New Plymouth ’ s Josh Houghton ( Husqvarna ) claiming third place , while runner-up to Hannon at round three was again the fast-improving Parkes , with New Plymouth ’ s Blake Lusk ( Yamaha ) finishing third on that occasion .
