FUTURE TALENT HAS IT IN HIS GENES

By : Andy Lee | Photos : Paddy McDermot

R eeve Lee is very experienced with motorcycles and has been around them his whole life . He has been competing for the past two years in motocross and has now shown a knack for road racing as well . When he first started racing motocross in 2019 , he came 3rd in the 110cc-125cc trail class at the mini nationals , then came 7th in the 65cc class at the labour weekend MX fest at Taupo . In 2020 Reeve broke his femur into two pieces in March , a result of which meant he had one plate and six screws inserted to help put him back together , and he missed most of the season recovering . However , Reeve managed to come back to win the MX fest extravaganza in the 9-11 65cc class and came 12th at the mini nationals in October . A fairly good achievement considering he hadn ’ t ridden for most of the year . In November , Eve Scriviner ’ s bike ( Andy

Scriviner ’ s daughter ) a Suzuki GSX150 came up for sale just up the road , which Reeve ’ s uncle Scotty Moir thought could be a nice little bike for Reeve to start road racing on . After Reeve ’ s time riding a motocross bike , Scotty thought he had all of the basic skills needed to ride the Gixxer , so he put him to the test by taking him out on the track . Scotty took him around a couple of times , then dropped behind to follow . After a slow start and some getting used to the cornering , Reeve ’ s lap times improved consistently . He has enjoyed riding both tracks one and two at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park , and his best time on track two ( short track ) is a 1min 32.9 second according to the GPS lap timer . Reeve compared times with Scott , who was not able to beat his time on the same bike - Scott was most impressed with Reeve ’ s natural affinity for road racing . A massive thanks go out to Tony at Bruce
