Simple workings that can be maintained and serviced yourself ? Tick Fun , excitement and a great sound ? Tick . Fuel economy ? Maybe . So , it comes down to what you ’ d prefer to ride for the money . Its sister , the Interceptor is a little more ‘ sit up and beg ’ style riding , and if that ’ s what you prefer why not ? Maybe having pillion access might swing it too ? But for my money the GT delivers thrills with just enough frills . The elephant in the room of course , is Royal Enfield ’ s decades-old word of mouth reputation as being unreliable and badly built , but recent years have seen that become mostly a thing of the past . Both bikes use a totally new air / oil-cooled , SOHC , 648cc , parallel-twin , four-valve-percylinder engine with a 270-degree crankshaft ( like the Triumph Bonneville range ). Inside the retro looking powerplant there are plenty of modern updates ; valve rocker arms using rollers on the cam side and locknut adjustable tappets on the valve side , a power assist /
