ROAD NEWS
While it would sound like a great thing for NZ to get in on , one of the regulations , in particular , makes getting an accredited MiniGP series off the ground here problematic . These include that the races must take place on karting circuits that meet minimum standards set by the FIM or national federation in question , who will also decide on the minimum circuit length . A minimum of four events comprising a minimum of eight races must be included on the calendar , with a minimum number of 15 permanent riders in each competition , with all riders to be on Ohvale GP-0 160 machinery . These bikes would currently need to be imported from Australia and are priced at
AU $ 7409 – easily three times the price of the GIXXER Cup bikes which currently hold the entry rung on the NZ road racing ladder . The regulations even go as far as to dictate the time of year the series can run , which unfortunately for us is in our off-season . The first event must take place by July 2021 , and the final event of the season should be held no later than October 17 . The official single tyre supplier for all the FIM MiniGP World Series will be Pirelli , with a standard tyre allocation given per event . FIM President Jorge Viegas and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta opened the event presenting the new project and unveiled two of the OHVALE GP-0 160 bikes to be raced in the final in Valencia .
