When most motorcycles had a separate and conventional seat and tank combination , the Katana has a fairing , tank , and seat that flow into an effective aerodynamic combination , drawing the whole design concept together . It looks as though it is designed as a complete unit , rather than three separate entities . If any one feature stands out it must be the fairing . One commentator said that if you saw it in your rear vision mirror you could be forgiven for thinking you were being chased by a shark . The model was a huge commercial success for Suzuki . Years later Suzuki even produced a ‘ Special Edition ’ 1100 , which was almost identical to the original . The Katana was still available in the Suzuki catalogue in Japan until 2000 . An almost twenty-year run for such a radical design was a credit to the vision of Suzuki and the design team .
