DID SEGWAY JUST DROP ITS NERDY IMAGE ?

F ollowing the announcement that Segway is moving into the petrol and hybrid Side-by- Side and ATV world , Segway Powersports has appointed Urban Moto Imports ( UMI ) as the official Australia and New Zealand distributor of Segway Powersports off-road vehicles . Urban Moto Imports is quickly becoming one of the larger players in the New Zealand motorcycle distribution game , with Royal Enfield , MV Agusta , Benelli , Super Soco and Peugeot Scooters already under the company ’ s distribution umbrella . “ As Segway Powersports forges a new path in hybrid All-Terrain Vehicles , we are confident that UMI is the perfect partner to establish the brand in the important ANZ region ,” says Segway Technology ’ s CEO Mark Zhu . “ We look forward to working with UMI to establish the Segway Powersports brand as a key player in All-Terrain Vehicle industry .” Founded in 1999 by Dean Kamen in the USA , Segway has come a long way from the nerdy image we most readily associate it with . The new range is ultimately a brand new platform of petrol and hybrid-powered vehicles including All-terrain Vehicles , Utility Side-by-Side and Sports Side-by-Side models , with power outputs of up to 250Nm of torque , and 181hp claimed by Segway . The new Segway range is also equipped with the very latest in technology and safety features , meeting and exceeding the current government standards for all-terrain vehicles – particularly in regards to ATV rollover safety . According to Segway , the tech package includes mobile phone integration , SOS alerts , remote controlling , drive settings , real-time data and smart EPS system that is designed with standard / comfort / sport modes and will adjust automatically according to traction conditions . At the time of writing Urban Moto Imports is yet to comment on local arrival of the new Segways or what local pricing might look like .
