This small pack can store enough for a two-week trip . John carries an extra “ tool kit ” on his bike for any running repairs , punctures and the like . For extra visibility , John attached daytime running lamps ( LED spotlights ) which were as cheap as chips ( not from BMW ); they are great at making the bike more visible , but they have three sets of lighting programmes ; one of the variations is where they flash constantly , which has on some occasions cleared the road in front due to my similarity to a traffic cop ! Because they are cheap , the programmes come on in turn , meaning if I forget , I can be riding quite some time with them flashing away . Not recommended ( although making me hugely visible ).
LONG DISTANCE RIDER This was all done to make it perfect for me and my style of riding , which nowadays is 90 % road riding , with the occasional gravel excursion , except for last year when we rode Taylors Pass and the Molesworth Station , and this year to New Plymouth for the BMW Club annual rally . We are long distance riders , and always have been . We like to ride to an event , ride around the planned routes , and then ride home . The BMW Rally last summer in Blenheim was a case in point . We returned to Taupo from Blenheim in one day , mainly to save an overnight ’ s accommodation cost , but also just because we could . For the Rally , I had Continental TKC70s on the bike , and they suited both the
