But , yep , as the days went by and the statistics continued to roll out bleak news , that glow of hope also got extinguished . Which is understandable , given the number of cases reported on the isle of 85,000 residents has touched just over 2300 … with 29 deaths . That ’ s kind of similar to the figures here … and there ’ s just over 5 million of us . So yeah , it ’ s not good for the good people of Douglas , and Laxey and all the other fine and fair places on that great isle . But these are extraordinary times and hey , we ’ ve still got MotoGP and the days of Marc Marquez domination are in the shadows now so there ’ s plenty to watch on that front . On that note , I was talking to a chum in the motorcycling media business recently who was bemused to receive a rather heated
note from an on-line reader complaining that he had published the results of a recent MotoGP the day after it had been staged . The note writer was miffed … for he liked waiting a week to watch it “ live ” on TV3 ’ s sports afternoon . Having the results published within 24 hours of the thing “ ruined it ” for him . I could only sigh when my chum told me about it . And also on that note ( of race coverage ), the 2022 Isle of Man TT ( fingers crossed ) is set to be televised live . Full race coverage and even live footage from the practice sessions . And it will be early June of course … our first foray into the months of winter , so what better way to warm up the old system on a chilled night . Watching the marvellous madness across the mountain and the cautious edging through Governor ’ s Bridge … and maybe a close-up of the pub at Creg-ny-Baa . Never too early to have a pint !
