LEGE MX

We ’ ve long been supporters of HPC and its MX team , even more so with ex-KR tester Dene Humphrey coaching the team . Amanda Fitzpatrick brings us up to date with how the school ’ s team is going .

It was a fast and furious last couple of weeks , with the final round of the Makz Gear Secondary School Series held at Ruakaka on Friday July 2 , hosted by the lovely Whangarei MCC , followed by the end of the school term with the Taupo Secondary Schools Champs . The Ruakaka track near Whangarei was hard work to get ready , but our team of 27 did so well to nail a track that few had ridden , HPC won the first school trophy and had some impressive individual results on the podium . This was the last round of the Makz Gear King of the Schools , which Hauraki Plains College won again coming away with a range of trophies for the overall individual results . The dedication from our ‘ pit crew ’ of parents is outstanding , and I mustn ’ t forget to thank Coach ‘ Hump ’ [ Dene Humphrey , ex-Kiwi Rider tester and racer - Ed ] for his words of wisdom in the pits and on the gates . Thanks also to the parents , coach and Mrs Fitzpatrick ( TIC of the HPC MotoX ) who made the wheels go around for the team of 32 this year . Coach Hump is now in his fourth year of coaching the team , of which he says , “ They ’ re the smartest presented team in the competition , all year , hands down . Well done HPC MX , I ’ m proud to be part of it , you ’ re a gutsy bunch , congrats on your achievements ”. Coach Hump is well respected in the pits and we are so grateful for his commitment and coaching of the kids . The standard of discipline is high at HPC and is carried to the track every time – the kids are well tuned and oiled to this – they know that if they get this aspect wrong they don ’ t get to ride on a school day . A huge thank you to Maurice Hayman and David Chissell along with all the
