People ask why I keep going back to the
event, and from the outside it must seem
crazy that I do. The Romaniacs event is
quite hard to explain. but there are many
reasons. I love the race itself – the riding is
nothing like riding in New Zealand. From
entering online at 11 o'clock at night when
entries open until crossing under the Red
Bull arch at the end of day four it's a roller
coaster. Then there are all the cool people
you already know, as well as those who
you meet on the way, and all of those who
you meet in Romania. They're all such cool
people to get to know. So, it's the riding and
the people which are my main reasons.
Anyway, enough Kiwis have been there that
you could just ask a few of them if you're
keen – the next few hours will just fly past!
I think 50% of riders who go have an idea
what they're in for... while the other 50%
will end up wishing they'd have listened
more carefully to the advice. Romaniacs
will humble any rider and it's a good way to
get out of your comfort zone – and there's
more to life than a bank balance!
