insignificance when compared with a bike
I was lucky enough to ride some time ago
in Christchurch – the Boss Hoss. Built in
the USA of course, had a V8 Chevy 350
engine, that’s 5.7 litres, and weighed in at an
astounding 500kg. I don’t have performance
figures for the machine, but I can say the
acceleration in a straight line is somewhere
in the aeronautical sphere. I could be
corrected, but in my experience, bikes

don’t come any bigger, although there was
a Boss Hoss with an 8.2 litre engine. So, when
we talk about big motorcycles, Tennessee in
the good old USA is up there amongst the
biggest we know of.
But back to the motorcycles we know and
love. The Z1300, by normal standards, is still
a big bike. It is geared to do 181km/h at
8750rpm, at which speed the large forks are
solid and stable. The shaft drive adds to fast
