When riders first transition to riding looser
surfaces we can feel pretty shaky, and we want
all the inputs we can get to stay upright. The
F750GS has inputs galore; there to hand on the
best colour TFT display ever, is the menu. Rain,
Road, Dynamic and Enduro settings, plus the
rear suspension can be adjusted on the fly, and
the TC and Braking system can be switched on
and off, with the left hand. This bike is not built
down to a spec however, it is built to fit into that
spec perfectly. You get keyless ignition and a
push button steering lock, that 5-inch full colour
TFT screen, really well positioned and without
glare. The Traction Control and ABS control can
be disabled/enabled on-the-fly with a single
button press – unlike any other system we’ve
tried. Electronic adjusted suspension, cruise
control, tyre pressure monitor, heated grips,
theres a touring luggage pack, and best of all,
you also get the quick-shifter. It’s not overkill on
an adventure bike that goes as well as this does
on the open road. Wrung out top speed is said
to be 190km/h and 4.1 seconds to 100km/h,
so it doesn’t hang around.
The rev range is linear and smooth as hell.
Chasing two experienced riders through some
of Auckland’s best-kept twisty secrets, I was
able to stay firmly in the rear mirrors of a new
BMW R9T. Adrenaline-wise this will satisfy and
please even ardent road riders. But it will also
handle shingle and turns into the corners as
easily as a road bike should.
