I’VE GOT PATCHY HOLES IN MY SOD ON MY LAWN. HOW DO I FIX THIS? One easy solution to fix holes in sod is to invest in a bag of soil and a bag of grass seed. Take the soil and open up the top. Then, put the whole bag of grass seed into the soil. By mixing them together in the soil bag, you will cultivate seed to soil con- tact, which is what grass needs to grow. Take this mixture and fill the holes with it, water it well, and in 20 to 25 days, you’ll have new grass. TIP Carson recommends using an 18 kg bag of soil in conjunc- tion with 2 to 5 kg bag of grass seed. - Carson Arthur appears in Season 4 of Home to Win on HGTV Canada. Photo by HGTV Canada I often find myself captivated by these amazing magazine images of shiny new kitchens which leave me dreaming of crisp clean lines and waterfall countertops. What if you just can’t afford to spend the tens of thousands of dollars on a new kitchen, or perhaps your kitchen is still functional but you think it’s just plain ugly? Rest easy, you can fall in love with the heart of your home all over again with a little bit of paint! PAINT WILL GIVE YOU THE BIGGEST TRANSFORMATION with the least expense. I know, I know, I hear it all the time, “but they’re solid wood!” and that’s great but they can still be painted! I hear so often There’s something to be said about well thought out, clean installs when it comes to purchasing an HVAC system. Multi zone air conditioning systems with all the coils hidden in the walls, like the one featured above from Watt HVAC, are one great way to fight the heat. The equipment is all tested prior to installation to insure it is all work- ing properly, and is installed professionally and with the utmost care. Stay on top of cutting edge technology and keep your family and loved ones cool this summer without extra clutter. - WATT HVAC, www.watthvac.com What is the best way to get a small job done that requires a little concrete? The traditional solution for small projects was Ready Mix Bags but they have a number of disadvantages. You have to transport the heavy bags, there is a dusty mess, mixes can be inconsistent, you may need to rent a mixer, the final product has poor strength (extra strength bags add $6 plus/bag) and there is time and effort lost to mixing and preparing the concrete. Steve’s U-Cart offers the perfect solution, allowing you to pick up small quantities of pre-mixed, high quality ready-mix concrete in a cart that you can haul yourself (delivery is also available). - Steve’s U-Cart, www.u-cart.ca that people are afraid of painting their wood - even when they hate it. Sometimes the texture of the grain will show through which is a lovely indicator that there is still wood under the paint. BEFORE THERE IS ALSO THE OPTION OF USING A GEL STAIN because you can put it right over top of any existing varnish, after the proper preparation has been done. BEFORE YOU PAINT, DECIDE IF YOU NEED TO UPDATE ANY OF YOUR APPLIANCES. That way, if any cabinets need to be modified to fit a taller fridge or you decide to move your microwave, the changes will be masked by painting them. - Thoma Doehring, Tri-City Paint & Design, www.tricitypaint.ca PRO TIP Paint and primer in one is a nice, fun, easy feeling for consumers - but it will NOT work on your cabinets. You need a super adherent primer, then paint. If you want to be happy with the outcome, do not skip prep!
