Third-generation builder , Randy Spracklin grew up in the woodworking industry with Saturdays spent watching his father build or fix up some old house , shed or custom woodworking project followed by watching episodes of This Old House and The New Yankee Woodshop . As a young adult , he dabbled in a variety of trades but was always drawn back to construction where he found excitement in the story behind each build or renovation project . In 2008 , Randy took a risk and rebranded the family business with the goal to take the business to the next level . Newfound Builders now offers complete build and renovation services from brand new custom home builds to 200-year-old restoration projects throughout Newfoundland and Labrador .
Randy also created a second branch of the company , Newfound Woodshop , where you can find custom pieces to fit your project . You can stop by the woodshop and get that custom piece that you have been dreaming about , built from some new lumber or that 200-year-old lumber salvaged from a restoration project . Newfound Woodshop now offers a showroom where you can view custom pieces or watch the team in action through a large window into the workshop !
In 2018 , Randy was approached by Cineflix Productions about participating in a show for HGTV Canada that would showcase the under-represented East Coast . Airing on HGTV in February of 2021 , Rock Solid Builds follows Randy and his team as they battle the island ’ s rugged terrain and notoriously harsh weather to pull off historic renos and jaw-dropping builds . Set against breathtaking views of ‘ the Rock ,’ it ’ s a year-round labor of love as these proud islanders do whatever it takes to get the job done . There are plenty of laughs and pranks along the way . And from spectacular new homes on the coast to loving
restorations of centuries-old properties , Randy and his crew showcase the unique charm of living and working on the extreme eastern edge of North America .
CANADIAN HOME TRENDS What inspires you ?
RANDY SPRACKLIN Working with old homes and old wood that comes from them inspires me . It ’ s something about those old homes and the way they were built years ago . Here in Newfoundland , we were a fishing province and had a lot of master boat builders . A lot of those master boat builders built homes in the off-season . I find inspiration in bringing an old home back to life and keeping a piece of history alive .
CHT If you could have lunch with any one person in the world , who would you pick and why ?
RS There are so many people I would like to sit down to lunch with to pick their brains , I wouldn ’ t be able to pick just one . But I would love the chance to talk to my Grandfather again and see his thoughts on the company as it is today .
CHT What is your favorite room in your house ?
