Connected to Nature BY DESIGN
Whether it ’ s a new home or renovation , we begin the design with the same approach . We look for opportunities to relate the landscape with the architecture and interior . We start with the obvious common ground to be found between people , plants and trees . Simply , our need for natural light , water and air . With this common need in mind , it is possible to use a single design gesture to integrate the landscape with the building .
We often encounter long , narrow lots . Homes on these thin rectangular sites can suffer from a lack of light in the middle of the floor plan . There are a variety of ways to solve this problem . Full time artificial lighting would allow you to see comfortably in the middle of the house . But this is no substitute for natural light that shifts in color and intensity . In this project , we adapted a time-tested architect ’ s strategy to solve this problem . The sun exposure from the south has the greatest intensity .
