meal prep tips for healthy habits are at the heart of our homes and now more than ever , they are at the center of the activity in our homes ! So many of us had long forgone the art of baking and cooking and opted for faster alternatives but as we spend more time at home these days , the kitchen is once again becoming a place where we cook , bake , gather with the family , work from home and more !
As the girls get older , they have grown to love baking and preparing dinner parties ! Ella ( 5 ) and Emilie ( 3 ) are quite the party planners ! Their guest list might be a little exclusive ( their parents and the occasional stuffed animal ) but I have to say their knack for décor is impressive ! These events happen a couple times a week and the course changes from an array of plastic food items to actual food they grab out of the fridge . I once attended a party in my gym area where the main course was sliced cheese paired with iced tea poured from their plastic kettle . Now , I ’ m one of those dads that gags at the sight of improper food handling so you can imagine my face as I tried to “ eat ” the cheese that their dirty little fingers laid on the plastic plate . Did I mention they also invite the dog to these dinner parties ?! I took one bite and who knew that the one piece would be surprisingly filling !
As a family , we ’ ve also been baking up a storm these past few months . The kids seem to love making cookies , cakes and cupcakes . I attempted to make a cookie with them over an open fire at the cottage in a cast iron skillet . Sadly , that was an epic Pinterest fail ! What seemed like a great idea turned into a smoky mess , but we had a lot of fun . Thank goodness for modern technology as I think I would starve if I had to make food on an open fire . I have always been more of a stove top or BBQ kind of guy .
As we adapt to the new normal , remember to plan out that kitchen renovation as a space you will be spending more time than usual in . I like that we are now customizing our homes to our current needs as opposed to planning out a renovation based solely on resale value .
