As you browse through the pages of design magazines , you will see many common threads when it comes to kitchen design . Homeowners are looking for custom pieces , bold colors , plenty of texture , functionality over aesthetics and sustainability in their kitchen designs and this project embraced all of those desires !
The kitchen needed to serve both a baker and a chef so functionality and traffic flow were key ingredients in the design . Lighting plays an important part in this with layered lighting on strategically placed dimmers to allow for both functionality and ambience as needed . A door was removed to allow for better traffic flow and to help save valuable workspace , the wall oven was installed below counter height . Careful planning ensured that this small kitchen could accommodate both of the homeowners ’ lifestyles with ease .
Once functionality had been established in the design , Designer Yvonne Crezel turned to aesthetics to create a kitchen that was both easy to use and a visual delight as well ! Taking a bold departure from the ubiquitous all-white kitchen , Yvonne selected bold dark green cabinets accented with metallic hardware . The Ivybridge Cambria Quartz countertops add an elegant finish to the space . To keep the look simple and clean , the quartz extends up the backsplash instead of introducing additional elements to the design .
White oak floors complement the other aspects of the design while also bringing warmth and texture to the space . Careful selection of materials allowed Yvonne to create a space that is both bold and dramatic and yet simple and inviting at the same time !
