Oakville-based designer, Kate Davidson,
is known for creating sophisticated and
contemporary interiors for her clients.
Following suit, is Kate’s work on a generous,
4,000 square foot home, located in an
established community in Mississauga,
Ontario.
The three storey, five bedroom
property boasts an open concept main
floor and includes a combined living and
dining area, and a connected kitchen, family
room with eating area on the main floor. Kate
was also tasked with renovating the family’s
spacious basement; it now includes an
entertainment space, a kitchen, and a spare
bedroom.
Of course, spaciousness is key when you
are working with a family of five; two working
professions, and three kids, two of which
being twins. However, when the couple
approached the designer, their hopes for the
home transcended mere livability. “Although
the homeowners have a busy young family,
they are very organized and tidy and take
great pride in their home,” says Kate. “They
live an active lifestyle and they enjoy
entertaining quite frequently. I got the sense
that they wanted a more sophisticated
space.”
With sophistication as the goal, Kate did not
hesitate in using more delicate finishes, such
as glass and cream furnishings, throughout
the home. This included the two matching
cream sofas and the neutral rug in the main
living area. Kate reveals that although the
large furniture pieces were moderately
priced, the family splurged on elements such
as the draperies, artwork, and wallpaper
