Fantasy- Harry Potter, J.K Rowling
Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy, with parents that died in a car crash, and no other family except for his dreadful Uncle and Aunt, and the fattest, most undesirable cousin. But little does he know, that the life he knows and loathes, completely changes at the age of eleven. All of the lies his Uncle and Aunt have told him, unravel right in front of his eyes, as the groundskeeper of hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry arrives to explain to him he is a wizard, and that he is going to the school that his parents went to, before him. Eventually the groundskeeper tells Harry how his parents really died. Harry Potter goes through a journey that no other wizard has ever been through, and faces the darkest wizard of all time.
Comedy- Matilda, Roald Dahl
The book Matilda is about an incredibly smart little girl who taught herself to read at the age of three and then by the age of four she had pretty much read all the books in her local library. But she is misunderstood by her parents and loathed by the school's headmistress. On the other hand her kind and generous teacher, Miss Honey, thinks she is a brilliant academic genius. Matilda has a number of excellent schemes in her head to teach her nasty parents and headmistress a lesson. Roald Dahl's Matilda won the Children's Book Award shortly after it was published in 1988, and it has continued to delight audiences ever since.
Animals- Brer Rabbit, Enid Blyton
Brer Rabbit is a mischievous bunny who is always planning to play jokes on the gullible Brer Fox, Brer Bear and the rest. There are many versions of Brer Rabbit written by different authors, but I believe Enid Blyton’s Brer Rabbit book is the best.
Classics- The sound of whales, Kerr Thomson
Three children are spending their summer on a wild Scottish island. Fraser, the eldest of the Dunbar boys, is desperate for adventure. Hayley, a visitor from America, is fed up with the island’s isolation, while Dunny; the youngest Dunbar boy, spends his days staring out to sea. He hasn't said a word in years. But everything changes with the discovery of two bodies on the beach. Fraser and Hayley see a mystery-adventure to be solved, but Dunny is inconsolable. And in the end, it will take someone who listens to the sea to put it right. The sound of whales is a classic adventure book by Kerr Thomas. It was also the winner of the Times Children’s Fiction Award in 2014.
