ANZ Bank Australia turned to NCR for an innovative self-service banking solution with a difference

Challenge ANZ wanted to make banking simpler for its customers through automation and better delivery of its services .
Solution With its unique Scalable Deposit Module ( SDM ), NCR SelfServTM ATMs accept , count and process cash and cheques simultaneously in one transaction . This capability reduces the time for a typical mixed deposit to less than 60 seconds .
ANZ is one of the top four banks in Australia , the largest bank in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands , and among the top 50 banks in the world . The bank operates in 33 countries , with representation in Australia , New Zealand , Asia , the Pacific Islands , the Middle East , Europe and the United States . ANZ has approximately 10 million customers and 50,000 employees worldwide .
ANZ wanted to automate transactions , improve its service delivery and provide a better customer experience . Other banks had chosen solutions requiring customers to sort their mixed deposits of cash and cheques , and make sure everything was lined up correctly . But ANZ wanted a solution that would do that work for the customers , making transactions faster and more convenient . However , ANZ needed to overcome some issues .
Nearly 750 of their branches had only through-the-wall ATMs with no lobby .
Without a lobby , the bank ’ s staff couldn ’ t be on hand to help customers learn how to use the new ATM services .
“ It was interesting ,” said Peter Tilton , ANZ ’ s Head of Digital Banking . “ A lot of the banks were saying it wouldn ’ t work because you don ’ t have the staff there , concierging and helping the customers .”
