Support Departments
First to be tackled in the Kingsgate Park Project plan will
be Win Coll’s Support Departments’ buildings, which are
mixed in among our teaching and sporting facilities.
Currently housed in a 1990s warehouse-style
building and converted squash courts, the
Works Department, Grounds and Gardens
Stores, Furniture Store and Laundry all need
to make way for the proposed development.
The relocation may be out of necessity but it’s
not without attendant benefits, since it offers
the opportunity to consolidate various facilities,
thereby improving site efficiency.
In addition to its current functions, the new
centralised facility will include improved Waste
and Recycling, a Central Purchasing Department
and exciting new Energy Centre. Replicating
the success of New Hall’s biomass boiler, there
is the potential to develop a new district heating
main that will serve buildings in the Southern
Campus with renewable energy.
Together with temporary buildings on Kingsgate
Park, the vacated Works Department will provide
an interim home for some of the sports facilities
while the new Sports Centre is under construction.
