From the Editor

Welcome to the 126th edition of the King’ s Courier, in which we look at the importance of diversity in education. The benefits of a culturally diverse environment for students cannot be underestimated and in his article, Director of Advancement Richard Burns highlights how important this is to ensure the King’ s philosophy of providing a top quality secondary school education for our students.
There are a large number of contributions from students in this issue, including an article from Head Boy Jasmeet SINGH( Year 13, Greenbank), who reflects on his time at King’ s thus far and what it means to be a student leader at the College. Rev Gareth Walters explains the importance of our Chapel Prefects – the very important group of Sacristans, who do such good work in the College. Teacher-in-charge Wendy Carey talks about PIHA- Pacific Island High Achievers- an initiative set up 10 years ago to support this vibrant and very important group of students in our community.
The Old Collegians once again provide more interesting articles for you to enjoy, including a piece on past students who have chosen teaching as their vocation. There are also a couple of great accounts of working holidays from recent Old Collegians – one taking the plunge in the icy waters of Antarctica, whilst another travelled to Africa for an outstanding cultural experience.
By the time this Courier is published my time as Marketing & Communications Manager of King’ s College will be over and therefore this is the last edition that I will edit. Working at King’ s has been an amazing part of my life for the last seven-plus years. I have met so many incredible people, made some life-long friends and learned so much; twenty-seven Couriers, eight Collegians, numerous website posts, thousands of photos. I have fond memories of standing on the sideline in the rain supporting the First XV, or in the blazing sun supporting the First XI! I have attended numerous Glee Club, Senior and Junior Drama and House Music performances- and loved being part of it all!
Although my time as an employee is complete, as a past and current parent my ties to the College remain strong, and my loyalty for an outstanding educational facility will never waiver. My thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years and good wishes for future happiness and success to all in the College community.
