2012 Academic Achievements

To follow is a summary of academic results for King’ s College students in 2012, which overall were oustanding.
NATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT( NCEA)
NCEA Level 1 Thirty-seven Year 11 students sat NCEA Level 1( 4 or more subjects) in 2012, a similar number to 2011. Thirty students gained their Level 1 Certificates, which is a success rate of 81.1 %. The highest credit scores were attained by Nicholas JACOBI, Charles BOOTH and Henry
HUMPHREYS. Seven students gained a Merit endorsement. The success rate is comparable to previous years.
NCEA Level 2 Sixty-three Year 12 students sat NCEA Level 2 in 2012. Sixty-one gained their Level 2 Certificates, which is a success rate of 96.8 % which is our best to date. The highest credit score was attained by James McCLOY. Four students gained an Excellence endorsement- Ellie RICHARDS, Rachael MURRAY, Madison ROUSE and Natasha WESTON. Twenty-one students gained a Merit endorsement; Gabriella
WIMSETT attained an Excellence endorsement in Level 3 Design. A highlight is the third successive year with a 100 % achievement rate for girls.
NCEA Level 3 Seventy-three Year 13 students sat NCEA Level 3( 4 or more subjects) in 2012. Fifty-nine gained Level 3 Certificates, with one a student gaining their Level 3 Certificate from three subjects, which is a success rate of 81.1 %. The success rate is slightly lower than last year and lower than our best years. The highest credit scores were attained by Arie HUTTON, Timena APA, Patrick CONNOLLY, Elizabeth MacCULLOCH and Olivia SANDELIN who gained an Excellence endorsement. Seven students gained a Merit endorsement.
CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL EXAMINATIONS( CIE)
IGCSE Seventeen students gained four or more‘ A *’ grades, qualifying them for Academic Half Colours. Sam CLARKE and Harry MANDER both gained five‘ A *’ grades having previously gained two‘ A *’ grades in 2011, plus an‘ A’ Grade in AS Mathematics. Vinu
ABEYWICKRAMA gained 7‘ A *’ grades. All students taking IGCSE Mathematics gained their UE Numeracy. The percentage of‘ A’ grades or better continues to increase.
AS Levels Thirteen students gained three‘ A’ grades in AS examinations, qualifying them for Academic Half Colours. Twenty students gained four or more‘ A’ grades in AS Examinations, qualifying them for Academic Full Colours. The best performances were Annie HUANG( 8‘ A’ grades plus 1‘ A *” grade in A level), Jaehwan KIM( 7‘ A’ grades plus 1‘ A *” grade in A level) and Henry TUCK( 7‘ A’ grades). The percentage of‘ A’ and‘ B’ grades was comparable to previous years. It was pleasing to see a return to the established level of students gaining University Entrance through the CIE pathway from Year 12, with 76.3 % of students achieving this level.
A Levels Twenty-three students gained at least three A
Level‘ A *’ or‘ A’ grades. Richard NGO gained 7‘ A *’ grades plus one‘ A *’ grade in 2011, averaging 92 %. Jamie BEATON gained 5‘ A *’ grades and two‘ A’ grades plus two‘ A *’ grades in 2011 averaging 91 %. Jefferson KO gained 4‘ A *’ grades and one‘ A’ grade plus one‘ A *’ grade in 2011 averaging 92 %.
UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE RATES FOR SCHOOL LEAVERS
A highlight of the NCEA results for University Entrance was a 100 % pass rate for girls, which was matched by the girls enrolled in CIE. The College equalled the 2011 overall CIE / NCEA UE pass rate of 94.1 %, which was a commendable performance.
ACADEMIC AWARDS
Cambridge Awards Congratulations go to students who won awards from Cambridge International Examinations for their 2012 results. Across IGCSE, AS and A Level classes( Y11 – 13), King’ s gained a total of 11 awards. Three of these were Top in the World results; three for Top in New Zealand and five were high achievement awards, which are awarded to the top student in New Zealand where there is a relatively small cohort of students.
