The artists are supported within the classroom by the art teachers, Tanya Twyford Troy and Turlough O’Donnell. The projects have been extremely diverse in their scope: John Beattie works with Video Art; Sven Anderson creates art through sound; Sarah Pierce’s project was based on the experimental theatre work of Bertolt Brecht; Elaine Leader creates large scale installation work; Rhona Byrne creates large scale sculptural installations and performances and Maria McKinney works in sculpture and installation. Blessington Community College would like to thank

Arts Officer, Jenny Sherwin for her support.

BLESSINGTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE OUTDOOR PURSUITS

This year there are 50 Transition Year students in Blessington Community College. At the beginning of September they all went on a two night stay at the Baltinglass Outdoor Education Centre. This trip has been a fixture each year in TY and is much anticipated by all of the students. It provides a really important opportunity for the group to bond with one another at the start of Transition Year. Activities experienced by students include archery, orienteering, hiking, abseiling, and kayaking. This year the trip coincided with the release of the Junior Certificate results, and the students were able to celebrate their achievements as a group under the safe supervision of their teachers.
