Kildare and Wicklow ETB Newsletter Issue 11, PARTNERSHIPS | Page 5

Ever wondered what Youthreach is all about? Well now is your chance to find out with the launch of the KWETB Youthreach promotional video. Earlier in 2017, the Co-Ordinators from each of the seven centres in Kildare and Wicklow embarked on a project to promote a deeper understanding of what the Youthreach programme entails and what it can offer to young people in our communities for whom mainstream schooling has not been successful. This video champions the student voice and gives a unique insight into how our centres are run and the fantastic work they do in supporting the educational and personal development goals of all Youthreach students in KWETB. The video also gives you an opportunity to hear from our Co-Ordinators and Youthreach Advocate first hand to explain the programme in more detail and to introduce the student centred and needs based approach to teaching and learning that is at the core of our Youthreach provision.

In addition to this newly launched video, each individual centre has their own video which looks more closely at the centre itself in the context of their local community and the young people who attend their programme. It is envisaged that these videos will be shared with schools, parents and guardians, community groups and agencies and all relevant stakeholders through all our social media platforms. This will give a genuine insight into the day to day life of our Youthreach students who work so hard with their teachers and co-ordinators to achieve their hopes and dreams and to progress positively in life.

A huge thank you goes out to our Co-Ordinators; Sharon Hughes in Arklow, Ellie Reddy in Athy, Caitriona Cullen in Blessington, Louise Cole in Bray, Lorraine O’Sullivan in Leixlip, Jonathan McNab in Naas, Lisa Harvey in Wicklow and Angela Glynn, Youthreach Advocate for all their hard work in developing these videos with the ever supportive Aidan O’Toole from Design Aid in Bray. And a special word of thanks goes out to all the students and staff who gave so willingly of their time to take part in the videos and to the students who shared their experiences with such genuine enthusiasm.
